molo’s exhibit at The Temporary Museum for New Design 2011 will show the studio’s continued exploration of innovative, lightweight, flexible building systems made from paper and textile space dividers, flexible furniture and lighting.
The “grotta di carta”, a series of natural brown paper caves, constructed from stacked columns of flexible paper blocks (part of molo’s family of modular partitions – softwall + softblock modular system), will demonstrate a relatively simple yet ingenious method of construction recently developed. Made entirely of recycled paper, the paper caves will reach a height of 3.5 meters and consist of a series of layered geomorphic spaces.
The large, experiential installation will also be a physical representation of molostore.com with parts of the exhibit showing multiples of molostore exclusive products inspired by the launch of molostore. For the duration of the show, everything will be available to purchase!
Taking inspiration from the wondrous mobile constructions of Alexander Calder, a mobile of luminous paper clouds will be suspended, moving with a gentle buoyancy in the air currents overhead. The mobile structure will allow for a broad canopy of cloud forms, hung from a single point, to provide light and a sense of intimate enclosure.
cloud softlight pendants were first introduced in April 2010 at “Innovation + Imagination”, Face to Superstudio, and were internally illuminated with daylight white (4800K) LED. During Milan design week, April 2011, we will show the warm white version of cloud (3300K) for the first time and a new generation of brighter LED technology.
