when an authentic product is supported, a client indirectly invests in the research and development behind that product. Designers are naturally curious and want to improve how we all experience life through their research. In contrast, copycats are satisfied by poking around on the web, looking for images of what they might be able to mimic authentic products are creative works of the mind.

Stephanie Forsythe + Todd MacAllen’s journey for molo began with a vision to redefine design through a unique approach blending artistry and architecture with delight and material experimentation. Beyond practicality and problem-solving, Forsythe + McAllen are intuitive creators who revel in the interplay of materials, light and space, aiming to stir emotion and enrich daily life through their work.

there's a wide spectrum of intent and effort behind a genuine product. Many people support the development of molo's works. In addition to conceptual and development research and creating the manufacturing processes, years of work are required to 'teach' an audience how to apply these new ideas, especially ones that challenge norms. When Forsythe + MacAllen first introduced softwall + softblock to the world, using paper to sculpt space and create elegant scenographies was somewhat unprecedented. These innovations have since become a benchmark, with recognition from the MoMA and other leading curators, museums and juries of prominent architects and designers worldwide.

Forsythe + MacAllen integrate design with their fascination for materials and making. The design pair works closely with material suppliers and manufacturers when researching, creating new work or developing an existing work. molo’s manufacturing family put their heart and soul into production development and figuring out how to serially produce works with consistent quality and economy.

beyond an object and its designer, the design of an original work is an act that involves several parties and much passion applied steadily and consistently. An idea is developed within a team with a vision and the will to risk something untried. All team members will challenge each other and must be resilient enough to endure repeated failures. Occasionally, they'll experience successes bright enough to overcome their depleted energies.

an idea takes time and iterations to develop from prototype to complete work. It's a team effort with many hands and minds at work. molo, like most creators of authentic works, strives for a dignified environment that allows everyone on the team to excel. molo's workspaces are highly considered, uplifting and supportive - like molo's products; they are designed with intent.

molo only collects and uses authentic, original works of art and design approved by Stephanie and Todd for its studio, office and workshops. molo will never use generic products, components or substandard materials, even at the level of the smallest detail; for example, when using a hook and loop fastener, molo will only purchase Velcro®.

unfortunately, the success and acceptance of molo's unique works have led to several copies that are a shortcut to an inferior alternative and disregard the intent and effort of development behind Forsythe + MacAllen's original inventions.

molo's products result from meticulous research in material and process - an effort that ensures clients will enjoy the finest possible product. molo is grateful to those who, like the molo studio, value and support authentic design.
