overview

benchwall is a flexible, paper or textile bench with a tall backrest that acts as both an acoustic space partition and seating. It can stretch into straight, high-backed seating or sweep into a spontaneous circular meeting room. A modular system with magnetic end panels, benchwall can be used with the larger collection of paper furniture by molo.

Brown, deep blue, and glacier blue paper furniture is made from wood harvested from FSC® Certified (FSC® C158591) responsible sources and coated with a non-toxic fire retardant. The textile is a durable, nonwoven polyethylene that is water- and tear-resistant. Both materials are 100% recyclable.

Standard benchwall is 5 feet (152.5 centimeters) tall. Custom heights available by request.

We recommend purchasing 4 - 6 wool felt pads per benchwall.

With use, the top surface softens and folds into a unique, organic pattern. The crushed facets catch light in a beautiful, variegated way, while the honeycomb below remains strong and intact. In public spaces or in high-traffic areas, use felt pads with benchwall to distribute weight and maximize longevity.

colour

The optics of light bouncing back and forth within the pleated surface intensifies the colour saturation and shadows of the actual paper colour. Context, lighting conditions, and arrangement all play a role in the lively shift of colour tone and depth, transforming a single colour into a range of hues.Paper is available in brown, black, deep blue, or glacier blue. Textile benchwall is available in aluminum, forest green, and translucent white. Each colour offers new possibilities for shaping and choreographing an atmosphere, or lively interaction with light.

Gmund Paper

The base material for glacier blue and deep blue paper is produced in partnership with Gmund Paper. The German manufacturer has been producing paper for nearly 200 years. Working in close collaboration with Stephanie Forsythe and Todd MacAllen, Gmund has developed new papers that balance rigorous technical and sustainability requirements with the more poetic sensibilities of the collection. Learn more about molo’s partnership with Gmund in our Stories section.

acoustics

The internal honeycomb structure and pleated surface break up reflected sound and provide acoustic absorption to enhance clarity of speech.
