molo soft collection · sustainable design for flexible living
environmental considerations are integral to the design and manufacturing of all products in the molo soft collection. Designers Stephanie Forsythe and Todd MacAllen take a holistic approach to sustainability and began with the idea that life is dynamic, and our buildings should be too.
efficient use of material
by virtue of its cellular honeycomb structure, the soft collection consists mainly of air, allowing a small amount of material to go a long way. A softwall expands in length one hundred times its compressed dimension. Light in weight and high in strength, the honeycomb lattice allows the structures to be spontaneously rearranged to transform space.
flexible use of space
enabling a space to adapt to diverse use over time, throughout the day or over its lifespan, is an inherently sustainable practice. An interior that can adapt to change is less likely to be torn out and thrown in a landfill. The soft collection eschews typical rigid building materials for more flexible, sustainable alternatives.
softwall + softblock is a freestanding, modular system of partition walls and building blocks. No tools, specialized labour or additional supports are required to create freestanding structures, that are easily rearranged or folded away and moved. softwall + softblock connect to one another magnetically, allowing your walls to grow or move as your needs do.
benchwall is both a flexible acoustic room divider and high-backed seating.
Whether for the temporal division of space in a live / work environment or shaping space for the unpredictable growth of a new business, the soft collection empowers people to change and adapt their space with ease.
recyclable and responsible materials
both the paper and polyethylene non-woven textile used for the soft collection are recyclable. The brown and blue paper are both made from wood harvested from FSC® Certified (FSC® C158591) responsible sources and are featured on the FSC® Canada website. molo is dedicated to pairing these materials with non-toxic fire retardants, adhesives and inks. Packaging for the molo soft collection is reusable and recyclable paper and cardboard made with 80 - 100% recycled pulp.
